Frequently Asked Questions
Last updated September 4, 2026
Coach Duardo is a small, honest beta. Here's what it actually does, what it doesn't, and a few rough edges we already know about, so you're not left wondering if something's broken.
What Coach Duardo is
What is Coach Duardo?
An AI cycling coach that reads your actual training data instead of guessing. It syncs your ride history from Strava, calculates real training load numbers (CTL, ATL, TSB) on your device, and factors in health data like sleep and resting heart rate if you choose to share it. You can chat about your training, get a full breakdown after every ride, and pick from six coaching personas depending on what kind of talking to you're after.
Who built it, and why?
One developer, also a cyclist, scratching his own itch. It started as a personal project and is now in a small private beta with a handful of testers.
What platforms does it run on?
iPhone and Android. Both are in private beta: iPhone through TestFlight, Android through Google Play's testing programme. Everything works the same on both, except health data, which currently comes from Apple Health only. Android's Health Connect isn't supported yet.
What Coach Duardo isn't
Is it a structured training plan?
No. It doesn't hand you a calendar of prescribed workouts weeks in advance. It coaches you based on what you've actually ridden and how you're recovering, one conversation at a time.
Does it track my rides?
No, that's Strava's job. Coach Duardo reads your ride history from Strava rather than recording activities itself, so you'll still need a bike computer, watch, or the Strava app to log rides.
Is it a social network or a feed?
No feed, no kudos, no leaderboards. That's Strava too. Coach Duardo is just the coach.
Can I trust it with medical or injury questions?
Coach Duardo's advice is generated by AI from your ride data and, where permitted, your health data. It can be wrong or misread your data, so treat it as a training companion, not a professional coach or medical advice.
Check with a doctor before starting or significantly changing your training, and stop and seek help if you feel chest pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness. You're responsible for your own safety on the bike and on the road.
Getting started
How do I get access?
It's a small private beta. Email us and we'll add your Strava account to the list.
Do I need a Strava account?
Yes, and ideally some ride history already in it. Coach Duardo has nothing to work from without it.
What health data does it use, and is it optional?
Sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate and weight, pulled from Apple Health if you allow it (iPhone only for now, Android's Health Connect isn't supported yet). It's entirely optional. Coaching still works without it, it's just less personalised around how well you're recovering.
Does it cost anything?
Free during the beta.
Coaching personas
What are the personas?
Six different voices for the same underlying coaching, from measured and professional to Zen, a straight-talking "Mate," a no-excuses drill sergeant, and a chaotic, foul-mouthed "Unhinged" mode. Same numbers, same advice, different delivery. Pick whichever one actually gets you out the door.
Will the swearing ever show up somewhere public?
No. If you ask Coach Duardo to draft a public Strava post while running Unhinged, the public version automatically dials the language down, and either way you review and approve the text yourself before anything is posted.
Known issues & workarounds
My weight or sleep numbers look stale, or just wrong.
Coach Duardo now ignores health readings older than a week rather than treating an old one as current. If your watch or smart scale has stopped syncing, it'll fall back to your Strava weight (or whatever you've entered manually) instead of a stale number.
I connected Strava but everything says "not authorised."
During the beta, testers have to be added on our side by hand. Email us the name on your Strava account and we'll sort it, usually quickly.
I got a "daily limit reached" message.
Coaching runs through a paid AI API, so there's a fair daily usage limit per athlete while we're in beta, to keep costs sane. It resets at midnight.
During Strava login I briefly see a strange web address. Is that phishing?
No. That's Coach Duardo's own backend handling the handoff with Strava before sending you back into the app. It looks rougher than we'd like, we know, and it's on the list to clean up.
Data & privacy
What happens to my data?
Short version: it's used to generate the coaching you asked for, and nothing more. It isn't sold or shared with advertisers. Full detail, including exactly what's sent to Strava and Claude and how to have your data deleted, is in the Privacy Policy.
